Budgeting & Forecasting

A budget your teams actually use, and a forecast that keeps up

Collect budgets from department heads in guided views, approve them centrally, and let actuals roll the forecast forward every month. Budget vs actual is always current because the spend already runs through Finovoo.

Budget vs actual with committed spend and end-of-period forecast per department.

The problem

The problems Budgeting & Forecasting solves

  1. Budget season takes a month

Templates go out by email, come back in different formats and are merged by hand.

  2. The budget is obsolete by March

Without regular re-forecasting, the approved budget stops describing the business.

  3. Budget owners cannot see their position

Department heads find out they are over budget when finance tells them.

Capabilities

What Budgeting & Forecasting includes

  • Collaborative budget collection

Each owner gets a guided input view with last year’s actuals and finance’s guidance.

  • Versions and approvals

Draft, submitted, approved and re-forecast versions with a full change history.

  • Rolling forecasts

Closed months are replaced by actuals and the forecast horizon rolls forward.

  • Live budget vs actual

Including committed spend from approved requests, invoices and card authorisations.

  • Overrun alerts

Budget owners and finance are notified when a line is projected to overrun.

  • Budgets that control spend

Approved budgets can set Fino Card limits and approval thresholds automatically.

How it works

Key workflow

  1. Set guidance

Finance publishes targets and assumptions for each department.

  2. Collect submissions

Budget owners enter their plans in guided views.

  3. Review and approve

Finance consolidates, challenges and locks the approved budget.

  4. Track and re-forecast

Actuals flow in daily; forecasts roll forward monthly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a budget and a forecast?

A budget is the plan you commit to at the start of the year. A forecast is your current best estimate of how the year will end, updated as actuals come in. Finovoo keeps both and shows the gap between them.

How does committed spend appear in budget vs actual?

Approved purchase requests, unpaid invoices and card authorisations count against the budget before they are booked, so owners see what is already spoken for.

Can we import last year’s budget?

Yes. Import budgets and historical actuals from spreadsheets to seed the first cycle.
